Our teachers

Four teachers, eight instruments

Everyone here plays what they teach. Days are beside each name; in summer, lessons run Tuesday to Thursday only.

  • Glenna Blevins, director and piano teacher, seated beside a lever harp in a quiet room

    Glenna Blevins

Director · Piano, voice, harp · Mon, Tue, Sat

Glenna started the school at her own kitchen piano and still teaches the first lesson of every new piano and voice student. She plays the harp for anyone who asks.

  • Laurel Rayburn, fiddle and violin teacher, holding a violin at her side in a sunny studio

    Laurel Rayburn

Fiddle, violin, mountain dulcimer · Mon, Wed, Thu

Laurel plays the same instrument in the concert hall and at the square dance, and she shows students where the two part ways. She leads the monthly jam evening.

  • Dewey Lovell, banjo, guitar and bass teacher, standing beside an upright bass in a bright room

    Dewey Lovell

Banjo, guitar, upright bass · Tue, Wed, Thu

Dewey learned the banjo at his grandfather's kitchen table and has played for dances and church suppers ever since. He teaches by ear first and by note when you ask.

  • Marlena Stovall, cello teacher, standing beside her cello in a bright studio

    Marlena Stovall

Cello, beginning strings · Tue, Thu, Sat

Marlena came to town to study and stayed to teach. She starts new cellists with the instrument's size and its sound, and she is glad to have a parent sit in.
